Climate change makes flooding in the UK more likely

Climate change is significantly increasing the frequency and intensity of heavy rainfall events in the UK. This was borne out  by a study done by scientists immediately after the extensive and damaging flooding caused in northern England and Scotland by Storm Desmond towards the end of last year. The study found that climate change had made the flooding event 40% more likely than would have been the case had climate change not occurred.
